As a result of road drainage problems reported to the parish
council, Councillor Len Neale accompanied two highways engineers from the High
Peak depot around the parish to point out the problems.
1 Bull Hill Lane. The steeply sloping lane is continually covered
in water. Two road gullies were found to be damaged and blocked but Bull Hill
Lane is the responsibility of Duffield division. The engineers will report the
problem to Duffield.
2 Outside Beech Hill Farm, Cross o’ th’ Hands. Heavy rain
causes the north side of the road to flood.
The engineers lifted the drain cover, but fail to clear the outlet pipe
with drain rods. Excavation will be needed.
3 A sign illegally attached to Waterlagg Crossroads signpost
was removed.
4 Outside “The Service Shed” Intakes Lane. Water issues from
a drain. The engineers lifted the drain cover and cleared the outlet pipe with
drain rods. Problem resolved.
5 Scout Lane Junction. A previously blocked drain causing
flooding is seen to be working OK. Councillor Neale had recently cleared the
outlet pipe where it ran under his field.
6 Black Horse Junction. The road would require recontouring
to prevent the shallow pond forming. Funds would not be immediately available
for this.
7 Moss Lane. Storm water floods across the road. Two culverts
were found carrying the stream under the road. A small one takes a normal flow
of water and is working OK. The larger storm drain has a stone built entrance
portal which has collapsed. This will require rebuilding.
8 A517 at Massey Barn. Heavy rain floods the field which
spreads across the road. Local Knowledge
led to a land drain under the road. Attempts to clear the pipe with drain rods
failed. It has probably been damaged when services were laid down the road.
Excavation will be needed.
The engineers indicated that remedial work would start after
